Meta Connectivity Engineer in Fort Worth, Texas

Summary:

Meta is seeking a Connectivity Engineer to join our DEC Engineering Product Development & Integration (PD&I) team. Our data centers are the foundation upon which our rapidly growing infrastructure efficiently operates, and our innovative services are delivered. The successful candidate is responsible for new product introductions for our data center telecom ISP/OSP connectivity infrastructure, including new builds and retrofits.The Connectivity Engineer must work with engineering, design, delivery, and sourcing teams; subject matter experts; vendors; and Connectivity operations teams to assure successful network product introductions and support. Responsibilities include proactively identifying pain points, opportunities for improvement and advocating effectively for new or modified connectivity as needed. Full lifecycle engagement is required, with lessons learned from field deployments, rolled into future product introductions. The Connectivity Engineer needs to collaborate effectively with internal stakeholders, assuring Connectivity/Network requirements are effectively communicated prior to product down-selection. This position is full-time.

Connectivity Engineer Responsibilities:

  1. Develop network architectures and define requirements for scaling network infrastructure in a cost-efficient and operationally streamlined manner.

  2. Work closely with the Network Engineering teams to design new data center network products to meet business requirements for construction speed, efficiency and fungibility while enabling connectivity required by the Network Engineering team.

  3. Develop foundational tray, rack layout and cabling designs to support new data center network products.

  4. Coordinate new data center network designs with CSLA, MEP, and control engineers developing new overall data center designs.

  5. Develop and collaborate with cross-functional teams to work on prefabricated (DFSMA) solutions and component offerings to be embedded into our new design products.

  6. Work with key suppliers to identify off the shelf or new products as well as means and methods that could lead to more efficient product designs, and work with hardware engineers to approve and certify these as standards.

  7. Identify impacts of new data center network product designs on existing design, procurement, and build processes. Work with cross functional partners to modify these processes to support new designs and increase overall organizational efficiencies.

  8. Investigate long-term technology trends and work with the vendor ecosystem to nurture innovations and create a path for implementation in Meta’s network.

  9. Work with external optical component, subsystem and system vendors, and qualify promising technologies for deployment in Meta’s Global Network.

  10. Analyze new product/business requirements and proactively develop design documents/policy recommendations for production grade optical infrastructure systems.

  11. Assist Site Selection in evaluating greenfield or leased sites for suitability for network products. Assist Site Selection in developing contractual language to ensure product requirements are satisfied as necessary.

  12. Train Design Connectivity Engineers and field teams on new design types so they can apply them to specific projects. Respond to RFIs from Design Connectivity Engineers and field teams to clarify design intent.

  13. Work with Design Connectivity Engineers and field teams to identify design improvements and incorporate them into updated and new product designs.

  14. Integrate new designs into internal automated design tools and processes.

  15. Able to travel up to 25% of the time.

Minimum Qualifications:

  1. Knowledge of fiber optic components, cabling, and interconnect products and technologies

  2. Experience developing cable conveyance and cabling designs. Detail-oriented, can solve complex problems with methodical approach and engineering rigor, demonstrated experience to effectively engage and collaborate with diverse functional stakeholders

  3. Applicable Bachelor's degree in engineering or other related field in addition to substantial data network design experience

  4. Knowledge of NEC/IEC fire and environmental ratings related to fiber optics, copper and coaxial infrastructures

  5. Understanding of role and impact of standards organizations in the cabling infrastructure and Datacenter space: American National Standards Institute (ANSI), International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC), International Telecommunication Union (ITU), Telecommunications Industry Association (TIA) and Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE)

  6. Experience in communicating with cross-functional partners, suppliers, and stakeholders

  7. 10+ years of applicable connectivity experience

  1. Experience with the operation of test equipment such as OTDR, OSA, BERT, Optical power meters

  2. Data center or other mission critical development experience

  3. State-of-art network data transmission end-to-end within the data center, for example 100G ethernet link, understand link budget and key optical and electrical performance specs of optical transceivers, fiber and fiber splicing technologies, path diversity, polarity, etc.

  4. Understanding of networking fundamentals including optical signal multiplexing (e.g. DWDM), Ethernet, TCP/IP, routing protocols, network topologies, etc.

  5. Data center network connectivity architecture, hierarchy, and topology

Public Compensation:

$144,000/year to $201,000/year + bonus + equity + benefits
