Meta Lead Counsel, Security, APAC in Gurgaon, India

Summary:

We are seeking a talented, dedicated, and highly motivated Lead Counsel to work on Meta’s Security Legal team, with a particular emphasis on India. The role requires the ability to work both independently as well as effectively with large multi-stakeholder cross-functional teams. This is a full-time position based in India.

Required Skills:

Lead Counsel, Security, APAC Responsibilities:

  1. Provide advice and support the processing of legal requests for user data, and manage the litigation of matters implicating user data disclosure in criminal matters

  2. Provide subject matter advice related to protecting our employees and assets (physical safety and legal security)

  3. Develop strategic approaches to managing regulatory, criminal and policy legal risks and resolving disputes

  4. Identify and advise business and product partners on legal obligations globally relating to data collection, preservation, and disclosure, and platform safety and integrity, including child safety and other serious crimes

  5. Support and advise cross-functional teams in implementing, testing, and evaluating safety and integrity compliance controls

  6. Work closely and creatively with cross-functional teams, including Legal, Policy, Communications, Engineering, and Business Operations in reviewing and addressing governmental regulations, agency guidelines, policies, including government requests for user data

  7. Willingness to work off-hours and overtime, including weekends and occasionally on holidays, in order to support emergency matters and interact with globally-based company employees

Minimum Qualifications:

  1. Resident in India

  2. Law degree

  3. 5+ years of legal experience, including government, in-house and/or law firm experience advising technology or telecommunications companies on Indian law (or on issues of similar complexity or relevance)

  4. Experience strategically managing and handling contentious Indian regulatory issues and/or criminal matters

  5. Experience working with cross-functional teams and influencing stakeholders in a fast-paced environment

  6. Team player who builds effective relationships and works well with others

  7. Ability to think strategically to solve legal challenges with attention to detail

  8. Ability to communicate and present effectively to diverse audiences

  9. Positive attitude and flexible mindset

  1. Experience providing counsel on India’s 2021 Information Technology (IT) Rules

  2. Experience regionally on issues pertaining to data collection, protection, and disclosure and analogous international laws

  3. Experience providing guidance to providers in responding to law enforcement requests or criminal matters

  4. Experience with criminal litigation

  5. Experience with Mutual Legal Assistance Treaty requests, Letters Rogatory, or other forms of international cooperation

  6. Regional experience engaging with regulators and legislators on regulatory, safety and security matters preferred

  7. Experience assessing, analyzing, and resolving multiple risk management-related issues and challenges while meeting tight deadlines

  8. Experience with applicable regulatory compliance requirements and spotting emerging trends and “hot issues”

  9. Experience and knowledge of telecommunication regulatory frameworks desirable but not essential

  10. Experience with U.S. law, including the Stored Communications Act, Wiretap Act, Pen Register/Trap and Trace Statute
