Meta Strategic Sourcing Manager (Optics and Optical Systems) in Sunnyvale, California

Summary:

The Supply Chain and Strategic Sourcing Group at Meta Reality Labs (“RL”) is seeking a Strategic Sourcing Manager for Optics, Optical systems, and Optical modules to drive impact and deliver results in highly innovative RL devices. This position will focus on leading one of the most strategic categories in sourcing. The scope includes identifying, selection and development of long-term partnerships for new products and new technologies through early engagement across cross functional partners, aligning external partner strategy to internal product roadmap needs, and to deliver best in class optical components and modules meeting Meta product requirements at the right time, at the right speed, and at the right cost. An ideal candidate will have high ambition to grow with Meta. You must be a high energy/impact individual with a demonstrated ability to succeed in a high-demand and fast-paced environment. Demonstrated ability to successfully navigate through ambiguities/difficult obstacles through facts & data, evaluation of alternatives, open-mindedness, thought-through strategy, extensive cost management, and superior communications to lead cross-functional organizations through sourcing activities will be required.

Required Skills:

Strategic Sourcing Manager (Optics and Optical Systems) Responsibilities:

  1. Conduct global market landscape analyses for new technologies / modules/ use-cases, & partner with PMs, engineering leads and other XFN stakeholders to recommend the right partner decision matrix to serve RL long-term technology needs.

  2. Continually benchmark the industry to monitor technology trends and ensure best practices are incorporated into the Meta supply chain.

  3. Actively engage and influence new technology exploration, collaborate with cross functional partners on creating a long-term Technology Roadmap mapping closely with Product Roadmaps, and advise/recommend to the executive team a clear partner/supplier strategy

  4. Own tech transfer into suppliers and elevating supplier’s technology capabilities

  5. Work with engineering and operations team to enable the right development frameworks at select partners to kick-start manufacturing and process technology solutions that best aligns with long term needs

  6. Support and influence HWD engineering team in new technology scoping effort with potential optical/materials/equipment partners

  7. Ownership of sourcing category and strategies, leading 5+ year technology portfolio decisions, partner selection and business negotiations

  8. Partner and work with a cross-functional team to drive the supplier selection process (own RFx) and component qualification both under strict engineering and commercial best practices/disciplines

  9. Actively participate in aiding to solve technical and operational challenges along with cross-functional partners, to keep product launch schedules on track

  10. Perform Value Engineering second source qualification, alternate materials/process evaluation/quality, and other cost reduction initiative at the material/manufacturing level

  11. Be an expert in category technology, cost and supply. Strong command of value engineering and technical cost reduction concepts to both product and category level

  12. Creatively draft development deals to kick start new relationships, and also to preserve a long-term view to establish best-in-class pricing, flexibility, quality, delivery, payment, warranty, and service terms

  13. Drive category cost and negotiate competitive pricing while keeping in mind the total cost of ownership including product cost, CapEx, logistics, inventory, and cost of quality

  14. Apply cost engineering principle to deliver most aggressive should-cost and budget (OpEx/CapEx) projections, with the ability to stand up to the most aggressive alternatives, doubts, and scrutiny

  15. Ability to travel internationally

Minimum Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

  1. Bachelor’s degree in engineering or technical field

  2. Minimum of 10 years of experience in the consumer electronics or tech industry and experience scaling technologies, having taken a component or module or system from concept stage into mass production

  3. Experience articulating points of view with executive management but execute plans when directed

  4. Experience working embedded with hardware and systems engineering throughout product development process of technology products

  5. Experience building relationships with engineering, product management, and other cross-functional partners and drive discussions around optimization of technical specifications, and features vs. value trade-offs

  6. Experience building and influencing relationships at suppliers’ executive level enabling future collaboration in new/uncharted technology domains, to consolidate leverage for Meta

  7. Experience in optical and/or electrical, electro-mechanical technologies, and demonstrated experience with deployment of manufacturing processes to support complex technologies

  8. Experience in supplier evaluation/selection, should cost models, contract negotiation and supply base management

  1. Experience working on New Technology Introduction (NTI)

  2. Master’s degree or PhD in technical discipline, and/or MBA degree

  3. Experience and knowledge in Optics, Display, Electro-Mechanical, Cameras and Depth Sensing technology

  4. Experience in vision sensing technologies, including, semiconductors, micro lens, free form optics, viewing Optics, optical coating, optical films and lamination techniques, etc.

  5. Experience in financial statement analysis to derive should-cost models and cost competitiveness/financial strengths of suppliers, as well as gathering market intelligence

Public Compensation:

$195,000/year to $267,000/year + bonus + equity + benefits
